Project Overview
The TTV Tramway (Termini–Tor Vergata) is a major transportation infrastructure project in Rome, Italy, connecting the Termini area with the Tor Vergata district.
Hashtech Consultancy supported the project with LOD 400 BIM modelling and documentation across multiple infrastructure systems. Unlike conventional building projects, the work covered a long linear tramway environment divided into 37 sub-lots, requiring consistent modelling and coordination across changing terrain and infrastructure conditions.
Working within a highly compressed programme, the team developed and submitted the required models and documentation while maintaining continuous coordination with the project team.
The Challenge
A large infrastructure project delivered within a compressed programme.
The project involved a significant amount of linear infrastructure that had to be developed across 37 sub-lots within less than two weeks of active delivery.
One of the key technical challenges was the changing terrain along the tramway. Electrical poles and associated infrastructure were positioned at different elevations, requiring each location to be checked against the surrounding terrain rather than relying on a repetitive standard arrangement.
The project also followed strict family, naming, parameter, and modelling requirements. Italian naming conventions and frequent design reviews added another layer to the coordination process, requiring careful interpretation of project information and continuous communication with the client.
Our Approach
Hashtech developed the infrastructure models in Revit, with Navisworks Manage used for coordination and clash detection. The scope covered:
- Electrical Traction (LTE)
- Traffic Signal Systems (ISE)
- Public Lighting (ILL)
- Underground conduits
- Duct banks
- Electrical wells
- Electrical poles and foundations
- Electrical equipment and components
Each sub-lot was progressively developed, reviewed, corrected, and submitted before moving forward. The team also incorporated the required project parameters and information so that the models could support schedules and quantity-related deliverables.
Terrain-Based Coordination
Because the tramway extends across varying terrain, pole locations and infrastructure elevations had to be individually reviewed.
The team checked the relationship between the infrastructure and the terrain at each location to maintain accurate positioning and consistent model development throughout the route.
Continuous Coordination
The project followed a highly interactive review process. Models were regularly shared with the client, followed by frequent meetings, email communication, and immediate feedback.
Navisworks was used to identify clashes, particularly across the long underground conduit and duct-bank networks, allowing the team to resolve coordination issues before final submission.

Project Impact
Despite the scale of the infrastructure and the highly compressed delivery programme, Hashtech completed the assigned modelling and documentation across 37 sub-lots.
The workflow combined detailed Revit modelling, terrain-based positioning, Navisworks coordination, structured data requirements, and frequent client review to produce coordinated project deliverables within the required timeframe.
Project Insight
BIM beyond the building.
The TTV Tramway project required a different approach from conventional architectural and MEP projects.
Instead of coordinating services within a single building, Hashtech worked across a long linear infrastructure corridor, where terrain, repeated infrastructure elements, underground networks, electrical systems, and multiple sub-lots had to be managed consistently.
The project demonstrates Hashtech's ability to apply LOD 400 BIM workflows to transportation and civil infrastructure, while maintaining detailed modelling, coordination, documentation, and data requirements under a demanding delivery programme.
Technology
- Autodesk Revit
